RuneScape: Dragonwilds combat

RuneScape: Dragonwilds combat after 0.12.1 is a stamina-aware loop shared by melee, ranged, and magic. Steam news on 26 June 2026 previewed parrying, dodging, and animation cancels for that pass. Water Magic arrived just before Umbral Sands. 1.0 added a special-attack and wand pass. The named loop, the three combat skills, and the road from Velgar to Kuldra are the facts to learn first. Play solo or online co-op; the loop does not change.

Stamina, parry, dodge, cancel

Shared 0.12.1 / 1.0 verbs

The 0.12.1 / 1.0 combat pass is the one you should learn even if you started in Early Access with older timing. Stamina is the shared resource. Parrying and dodging are the named defensive verbs. Animation cancels are the named way to keep a string from locking you in a swing while a dragon head comes down. None of those lines invent attack-frame charts. They tell you the verbs Jagex put on the patch.

If you only train gathering, the raid arena will still ask for this loop. Co-op partners can cover a style; they cannot cover your stamina bar.

Attack, Magic, Ranged

Three combat skills · cap 99

Attack defeats enemies with melee weapons. Magic defeats enemies with magic or cast spells. Ranged defeats enemies with ranged weapons. Those three skills still cap at 99 and still sit in the combat group on the skill board. Special attacks and wands are the 1.0 extra, not a fourth skill.

Melee wants to be close enough to parry. That is a gift in Temple Woods and a problem under a five-head Queen if you never learned dodge. Magic wants space and a school. Ranged wants ammo identity. All three styles share stamina, so a panicked sprint still empties the bar you needed for a special.

Water Magic and ranged tools

Umbral Sands kit

Steam news on 16 June 2026 was titled Introducing... Water Magic!, adding a named magic school ahead of the desert region. Treat it as part of the Umbral Sands preparation, not as a Brynmoor default. Ranged later received Hunter Sense, Spectral Arrow, and Snare, plus poisoned, barbed, and flaming ammo. Those are loadout nouns, not a promise that every ammo type exists on day one of a new character.

Wands and special attacks belong to the 1.0 pass. Use them after you already understand dodge and parry, or you will spend specials while standing in a telegraph. Notebookcheck and Steam both describe the rework as the road to Kuldra. Take that loop from Whispering Swamp to the no-build raid rather than waiting on per-weapon frame charts.

Specials, wands, and when not to press them

1.0 extras

A special attack is a 1.0 verb. A wand is a 1.0 magic tool. Neither replaces dodge. Press them after a parry has already created a window, or after a dodge has already taken you off a telegraph. If the stamina bar is empty, the special is a taunt. If the stamina bar is full and you never spend it, you are playing the April 2025 timing in a September 2026 game.

Co-op lets one player hold melee while another holds magic, but both still share the same arena rules on Kuldra: no building, no crafting, same stamina. Practice the loop on Zogres and Garou where a wipe costs a walk back to Bramblemead, not a raid reset. Then take the same fingers into Velgar, Imaru, Fuzan, and the Queen.

Water Magic is the named school that arrived just before Umbral Sands. It is not the only magic. Ranged ammo identities — poisoned, barbed, flaming — are loadout nouns for later maps. Hunter Sense, Spectral Arrow, and Snare are the named Ranged spells. Learn the empty-hand dodge first so those tools have a body that can still move.

What this loop is for

Velgar to Kuldra

Velgar is a power-4 general with 6000 wiki health. Imaru is a revenant in a gated undead region. Fuzan is a fire dragon in a scorch desert. Kuldra is five heads in a no-build arena. The same stamina rules apply; the maps do not. Pack the metal tier that matches the region, then fight with the style you actually trained. A magic 99 with iron robes is still an Umbral Sands problem.

Bring iron honesty to the south, steel into Fellhollow, mithril into Dowdun, adamant and fire kit into Umbral Sands, and the named 1.0 sets into the Hub. Controller support improved with Dowdun Reach, and Steam still lists Partial Controller Support. Neither fact makes the loop turn-based. If you came from tick-based RuneScape, expect to miss your first parries in Whispering Swamp and to learn there instead of on Kuldra.

A night in Bramblemead that only spends stamina on sprints is a wasted night. Practice a parry on a Zogre, a dodge on a swamp telegraph, and a special only after the bar can recover. The Queen will not teach those habits for you. Unreal Engine 5 combat has weight. Read the skill board for 99 targets, the crafting table for sets, and the raid brief for the Hub rule. A melee 99 still needs stamina. Invite a partner if you want a second style in the arena; both of you still spend the same bar. Pack the set that matches the map, then fight.
